Champagne Xavier Leconte, Scelle 2 Terriors Brut Millésime 2011

(1 customer review)

$115.00

This Millésime 2011 champagne is a blend of Pinot noir and Chardonnay grapes from two different plots of old vines. In addition, the passage in an oak barrel, the long 6-year maturation on lees, the very low sugar dosage (3,5 g/L), and rounder wax sealed bottle make this wine an exceptional champagne which you will like offering for special occasions.

Composition

This champagne is composed 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay
from two small plots, Le Clos de Poiloux and Les Longues Raies where the age of the vines is 30 years old. Vinification is made in oak barrels from the harvest of 2011 aged on lees for 6 years. Dosed at 3.5g/l, the Scellé 2 Terroirs (literally “2 plots”) is an extra brut champagne of the Millésime year 2011.

When to drink

A perfect balance between finesse and structure, dedicated to gastronomy.

Tasting Notes

The Scéllé 2 Terroirs appears with a Gold robe. The nose is elegant with aromas of white flowers (acacia). Then it opens onto hazelnut, Williams pear, damson plum and quince. The attack is clean, fresh and fruity with baked apple and apricot jam. The finish is on grilled aromas.

Awards

International Wine Challenge Bronze Winner.

Meet the Grower: Champagne Xavier Leconte

Located in the Marne Valley area of Champagne, France. In 1870 Onésime Leconte began as a champagne grower. Xavier Leconte, now the fifth generation, oversees 10 hectares (24.7 acres). In 2003, Alexis, Xavier’s son, joined the legacy. He preserves the soil and produces real “Terroir” wines. The house relies on 40 small plots spread over several villages in the valley for their wines.

Like his grandfather, also a keen practitioner of natural methods, Alexis follows the phases of the moon, applying techniques based on the cycle of the Earth, increasing sustainability and reducing the carbon footprint.

Alexis follows the house style developed by his predecessors to produce wines of great quality, whilst ensuring he nurtures the land for the generations to come.

This bottle was another standout from our mixed case over Christmas. Crisp yet smooth and a pleasure to taste something a little different.
